Acupuncture

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

This is an approach focussing on improving bodily functions by harmonising individual organs and allows for trouble spots to be identified and treated directly.

5 Elements

The belief that everything on earth including humans, and even their organs and emotions stem from the 5 elements. FIRE, EARTH, METAL, WATER and WOOD. 5 element treatment works on correcting one's balance of these elements and healing on a constitutional level. Kerry integrates both these styles together for maximum benefit and effect. Combining these styles can dramatically improve ones health on a core level.

Qi

Qi pronounced "chee" is the Chinese word for energy. Qi surrounds everything and runs through our bodies via channels or meridians. Along these channels are acupuncture points over 500 in total. The Qi travels around the body smoothly reflecting in our physical, mental and emotional state. When the Qi gets blocked illness, pain and symptoms occur. With out addressing these blocks illness can penetrate to different levels in the body and cause further disharmony and severity of disease resulting in prolonged ill health or weakened immunity.

Other components to acupuncture

As well as needles Kerry enhances her treatments with other forms of Chinese medicine. These include moxa, cupping, sliding cups, diet and lifestyle advice.

Moxa

This is a herb grown in China and Japan and prepared from the leaves of artemesia vulgaris latiflora (similar to mugwort). The veins of the leaves are stripped, then ground and aired.  It is used loose and stuck to a needle or packed into a stick.  This is burnt over the points or various body areas i.e. lower back.  This has a warming, nurturing and healing property and used mainly where there are patterns of cold causing illness or disharmony. It has a unique but pleasant smell and often induces relaxation.

Cupping

A flame is burnt inside a round glass cup removing oxygen and then the cup is placed onto the skin causing a mild suction. This treatment is mainly used at the onset of an illness to prevent disease penetrating deeper into the body.  Also can be used on muscle tension knots and back pain.

Sliding cups

Great for muscle tension, cellulite and relaxation.  Oil is rubbed onto the skin, cups are placed on causing a mild suction and then moved around various parts of the body.  This feels like a very warming deep massage.

Diet and lifestyle

Sometimes a reason we are not getting well or feel as vital as we could is down to our diet and lifestyle.

Kerry may give advice with regards to your current diet, avoiding or adding certain foods.  Slight lifestyle adjustments could be recommended as to enhance the effectiveness of treatment.
